Things That Make Your SEO Strategy Terrible and Less Effective

So much has been shared about what the proper practice of SEO is, but very few talk about how your SEO strategy can become ineffective. You may spend tons of money trying to get your optimization right, but as long as factors are standing in your way, your SEO will be terrible.

Then, what things can harm your SEO strategy, making it terrible and less effective? Find out below:

Choosing the wrong keywords

To attract the right audience to your platform, it is about so much more than understanding your audience. You may have learned all there is to know about their online habits, but still, end up targeting the wrong keywords.

Figure 1 Keyword research

With keywords, it is not so much about getting the keywords you feel are right for your audience, but understanding the intents of your audience for those specific terms. It is, therefore, your job to interpret, from the keywords you choose, what the users want, and how your brand can effectively be a solution.

Keyword stuffing

Let’s say you find the right keywords with a proper understanding of what the users meant. If you overuse those terms on your web page, you are heading a terrible SEO route. Keywords stuffing kills the natural flow of material in your work. People start having a hard time understanding your main message because they are so set back by the overuse of terms. Instead, you can avoid using exact-match keywords so many times in your site, and opt for secondary keywords that will complement your primary ones.

Ignoring content quality

No matter which angle you look at it, content is king in matters of SEO. It allows website owners and audiences to communicate on the level of value addition. You do not want to wander too off been quantity and quality. Ensure you release just enough material to your audience, without compromising on quality.

Irrelevant internal linking

For a while, SEO experts have emphasized the importance of internal linking in content creation. True to their words, internal linking can boost your performance because it provides leeway for people to access more of your work while spending a lot more time on your platform.

However, if your internal linking strategy is about adding irrelevant posts, it won’t add up. The links you add must communicate the same idea as the material you have shared. You will only hurt your ranking if the links you add are irrelevant to the content of the page.

A slow site

No matter how much you try to get your optimization right, anytime your visitors reach your site, and it takes ages to open, you will fail. Ideally, failure happens because of the increase in bounce rates. Your content may be really good, but people feel like there is always better material online if your page won’t open as fast as they want it to.

Remember, the moment search engines sense an increase in your exit rates, your ranking position starts dropping. The reason is that high exit rates imply a poor user experience. Since user experience is a crucial ranking factor, there is no way you will be on the top of search engine results with a slow site.

Ignoring analytics

The performance of a site is obviously important to website owners, but even then, most of them end up neglecting their analytics. You may think that checking the analytics of your platform is too much work and a form of formality, but it has immense benefits that could mean a win or fail of your SEO strategy.

Analytics allows you to audit your site for the behavioral data. You are at a better place to know where your website is ailing, and how you can make things better. Additionally, it is through analytics that you understand where your strength is in SEO. For example, once you know where most of your traffic comes from, say, Facebook, you can make a better-informed decision on where to channel more energy and where not to. An excellent and easy-to-use tool you can consider for this purpose is Google Analytics.
